French

At Flushdyke, our aim is to provide a high-quality French Language curriculum, which provides our children with an opportunity to experience other cultures and to develop a love of languages. We aim to foster a natural curiosity within our young linguists, to develop and deepen their understanding of the world.

Our curriculum is designed to enable our children to understand and respond to spoken and written language with increasing confidence and fluency. Through carefully planned learning experiences, based on Rachel Redfearn’s 'La Jolie Ronde' Scheme of Work for French, we inspire children’s curiosity in learning another language and exploring a different culture. French is taught regularly in Key Stage 2. This allows our children to acquire new language skills and then apply them across a range of scenarios and topics. Our children are supported to develop their speaking and listening skills through a range of engaging activities in conversational work, singing activities and games. As their confidence and skills grow, children record their work through pictures and writing.

It is our goal that, by the time children leave Flushdyke, they will have developed a natural curiosity and love of learning the French language and its associated culture, which in turn will inspire the learning of other modern foreign languages.
