At Flushdyke our aim is to provide a high-quality art curriculum which develops children’s confidence with art whilst nurturing the love of art through producing creative work where children express themselves individually.
Our curriculum is designed to provide children with experiences which offer the variety of art and design techniques that young artists require. Through immersive learning experiences, we inspire children’s thirst for art through purpose and imagination.
Each half term, the whole school follows an art focus which links to each class’ core text. This will enable children to improve their mastery of the following art and design techniques; drawing, painting, 3D sculptures, printing, collage and textiles across the year. Work, drawings and observations will be recorded to enable children to review and evaluate improvements. The language of art, craft and design will be encouraged to support the children as they begin to evaluate and analyse their own creative work. Inspiration will be taken from nature, design and children will also learn about great artists and designers in history; this will support their appreciation that art shapes our history and contributes to our creativity and wealth of our nation. During this time, children will be given the opportunity to read subject specific books to deepen their knowledge of the subject.
It is our goal, by the time children leave Flushdyke, they are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to experiment with art and design whilst being able to express themselves creatively.
