Our school opening hours are as follows:

School begins at 8:50am and finishes at 3:20pm.

This equates to a school week of 32.5 hours.

Morning Nursery begins at 8:50am and finishes at 11:50am.

Our School attendance target is 97% (in line with the Wakefield LA target for 2026-2027)

At Flushdyke, we believe that high levels of attendance and a punctual start to the school day are important for all children. Promoting excellent attendance is the responsibility of the whole school community: staff, pupils, parents, carers and governors. We consistently promote excellent attendance through high expectations of pupil behaviour, attitudes towards learning and through the stimulating curriculum.

All children should be at school, on time, every day unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable.

You may not realise that a child who is absent from school for 10 days in an academic year will only attain 94.7% attendance. Government legislation has set all schools a target of 97% attendance each year.
In addition, the law states that parents do not have a right to take their child out of school for a holiday during term time. The Governors at Flushdyke have made the decision to refuse all requests for holidays during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

On these rare occasions, the request would need to be presented in writing to be approved by the Headteacher and Governors if appropriate. Exceptional circumstances will be considered in line with Government guidance.
